We love so much about the men we allow in our lives, from the little things they do to the special moments that make major impacts. But do they know just how much we love and appreciate them? If you ask a man what he needs from his woman, the answer quite often is that he just wants to feel loved and appreciated.
Let’s look at a few ways to make that happen:
1. Put the Phone Down
Do you have any idea how annoying men find it when we are texting, tweeting or playing on Facebook while they are talking to them? We are giving off the impression that social networking is more important to us than they are. The world will not come to an end if you do not know the latest updates on Twitter, give him your complete attention, just as you would expect him to do.
2. Support his Dreams
As black women we get a bad rep for putting our men down frequently, demeaning them instead of encouraging them. Its time to replace that image. As women, we have to be the first person they want to discuss their goals with, the one they want to share their dreams and desires with. If he feels you will belittle his ideas, he will hold back his innermost thoughts; show him he can trust you with his inner desires.
3. Let Him Be a Man
Give him time with the boys, encourage it. Before he met you he had a life, he had friends, clubs and activities he enjoyed. Becoming a couple should not change that. The last thing a man should feel is that his life is over now that he is part of an ‘us’.
4. Thank Him
You may assume he knows how much you appreciate the little things he does for you, but you know what they say about assuming. There may very well be something he does that you absolutely love and he does not even realize the impact he is making. What happens if you don’t say anything? He stops. Let him know how much you love it when he pumps your gas because you hate it or makes the coffee in the morning because he knows you can be a bit of a witch without it.
